Class Format & Daily Schedule
Day One
We begin at 8:30 AM with coffee and light breakfast foods, allowing time to get acquainted and discuss your interests and goals for the class. Afterward, we complete paperwork and collect the final balance for the class. Receipts are provided, and payment can be made via personal check, cashier’s check, or credit card (with a 3.5% fee for card payments; AMEX is not accepted).
Once settled, we dive into learning how to press a variety of fresh flowers. You’ll work with foam presses, learn how to stack them properly, and explore how to use a food dehydrator in conjunction with the foam press.
Lunch is provided, and after the break, we focus on mounting flowers onto paper backings and cutting them out. This step ensures greater stability for the flowers, making designing easier. This process takes several hours, followed by hands-on designing. By the end of the first day, most students will have completed one or two framed designs.
Day Two
This is a full day dedicated to designing. You’ll spend several hours creating framed pieces while learning professional framing techniques from Carl Kolata. Proper framing is essential for the longevity of your designs, and Carl will share valuable tricks and tips for a polished, professional finish.
Day Three (Optional Extra Day)
This day mirrors Day Two, allowing students to create additional designs. If you choose the three-day course, you’ll leave with more finished pieces.
The number of designs each student completes varies based on individual working pace and other factors. However, in a two-day course, students generally leave with at least four or five completed designs.
Travel Tip: Plan ahead for transporting your framed pieces home. Some students bring an extra-large suitcase, while others choose to have their artwork shipped at an additional cost.
